In 1944, Charles Brown was hired by guitarist Johnny Moore, whose brother Oscar Moore was the innovative guitarist in the Nat "King" Cole Trio. Johnny was forming his own trio, The Three Blazers (Johnny Moore – guitar, Eddie Williams – bass, Charles Brown –piano and vocals). The group, like the "King" Cole Trio, epitomized the cool, relaxed West Coast piano trio style but brought to the sound a melancholy blues quality that was distant from Cole's swinging arrangements...

Romance in the Dark is a 1938 film directed by H. C. Potter and starring Gladys Swarthout, John Boles, John Barrymore, and Claire Dodd. Swarthout , a very popular Metropolitan Opera mezzo-soprano, stars as a Hungarian peasant girl who is stuck in the middle of a rivalry between tenor Boles and his manager, Barrymore. Both men are trying to prove their manliness to countess Dodd. Boles's plan is to turn Swarthout into a star ("the Persian Nightingale") so that Barrymore...

The classic version of Malagueña is plaintive and romantic. A poor young man is in love with a beautiful girl from Malaga, Spain. He has nothing to offer by his heart, pure and good and his hands, willing to work. This delicate love song, whose roots lie in forms of social behavior which existed a thousand years ago, seems to call up subliminal memories and courtly instincts of a time centuries past, whenever it is played.
