Aerosmith is an American rock band, sometimes referred to as "The Bad Boys from Boston" and "America's Greatest Rock and Roll Band". Their style, which is rooted in blues-based hard rock, has come to also incorporate elements of pop, heavy metal, and rhythm and blues, and has inspired many subsequent rock artists. The band was formed in Boston, Massachusetts in 1970. Guitarist Joe Perry and bassist Tom Hamilton, originally in a band together called the Jam Band, met up with singer Steven Tyler, drummer Joey Kramer, and guitarist Ray Tabano, and formed Aerosmith. In 1971, Tabano was replaced by Brad Whitford, and the band began developing a following in Boston.

They were signed to Columbia Records in 1972, and released a string of multi-platinum albums, beginning with their 1973 eponymous debut album, followed by their 1974 album Get Your Wings. In 1975, the band broke into the mainstream with the album Toys in the Attic, and their 1976 follow-up Rocks cemented their status as hard rock superstars. By the end of the 1970s, they were among the most popular hard rock bands in the world and developed a loyal following of fans, often referred to as the "Blue Army". However, drug addiction and internal conflict took their toll on the band, which resulted in the departures of Perry and Whitford, in 1979 and 1981 respectively. They were replaced by Jimmy Crespo and Rick Dufay. The band did not fare well between 1980 and 1984, releasing a lone album, Rock in a Hard Place, which went gold but failed to match their previous successes.

Although Perry and Whitford returned in 1984 and the band signed a new deal with Geffen Records, it was not until the band sobered up and released 1987's Permanent Vacation that they regained the level of popularity they had experienced in the 1970s. Throughout the late 1980s and 1990s, the band scored several hits and won numerous awards for music from the multi-platinum albums Pump (1989), Get a Grip (1993), and Nine Lives (1997). Their comeback has been described as one of the most remarkable and spectacular in rock 'n' roll history. After 41 years of performing, the band continues to tour and record music.

Aerosmith is the best-selling American rock band of all time, having sold more than 150 million albums worldwide, including 66.5 million albums in the United States alone. They also hold the record for the most gold and multi-platinum albums by an American group. The band has scored 21 Top 40 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, nine number-one Mainstream Rock hits, four Grammy Awards, and ten MTV Video Music Awards. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001, and were included among both Rolling Stone's and VH1's lists of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.

Aerosmith - amerykański zespół rockowy grający w charakterystycznym stylu będącym mieszanką hard rocka i bluesa. Sprzedali ponad 150 milionów egzemplarzy swoich albumów na całym świecie. Zespół powstał w Bostonie w 1970 roku. Grupę sformowali gitarzysta Joe Perry i basista Tom Hamilton po poznaniu wokalisty Stevena Tylera, perkusisty Joeya Kramera i gitarzysty Raya Tabano. W 1971 roku Raya Tabano zastąpił Brad Whitford. Rok później grupa podpisała kontrakt z wytwórnią Columbia Records i 13 stycznia 1973 roku wypuściła swój debiutancki album - Aerosmith, który odniósł duży sukces sprzedając się w 2 milionach kopii. Po trasie koncertowej zespół nagrał swój drugi album Get Your Wings, wypuszczony w marcu 1974.

Albumem, który ugruntował pozycję Aerosmith w czołówce najlepszych zespołów rockowych był Toys in the Attic, zawierający m.in. piosenkę Sweet Emotion. Był to pierwszy utwór Aerosmith, który zajął pierwsze miejsce na prestiżowej liście radiowej Top 40. Toys in the Attic okazał się najlepiej sprzedającym się albumem Aerosmith w USA, gdzie uzyskał liczbę 8 milionów sprzedanych kopii. W tym czasie zespół rozpoczął wynajmowanie domu w Waltham, w stanie Massachusetts, który stał się miejscem nagrywania muzyki jak i prowadzenia biznesu.

Następnym albumem zespołu był Rocks wypuszczony 3 maja 1976 roku. Szybko sprzedał się w 4 milionach kopii i uzyskał status platynowego. Rocks wraz z albumem Toys in the Attic and Rocks wszedł na listę 500 najlepszych albumów magazynu Rolling Stone. Po tym albumie zespół zagrał na kilku festiwalach i wielkich stadionach swoje własne koncerty. W 1977 roku zespół nagrał platynową płytę Draw the Line, a rok później wpłacił ponad 3 i pół tysiąca dolarów kaucji za uwolnienie 52 fanów, którzy złamali przepis niepalenia podczas koncertu w Fort Wayne. W 1988 roku po raz pierwszy nagradza ich MTV w kategorii "Best Group Video" i "Best Stage Performance in a Video" - oba za piosenkę "Dude Looks Like a Lady". W 1994 występują na koncercie w Polsce.

Kolejna płyta, Just Push Play, pojawiła się w sklepach w USA w marcu 2001 roku debiutując na 2. miejscu listy Billboardu. Miesiąc później była już platynową płytą. Był to pierwszy album Aerosmith wyprodukowany przez członków zespołu - Stevena Tylera i Joe Perry'ego. W marcu 2004 roku ukazała się kolejna płyta w dorobku grupy - Honkin' on Bobo.Jest to płyta w całości bluesowa. Wśród 12 kompozycji na krążku znalazła się tylko jedna piosenka autorstwa Aerosmith, "The Grind". Reszta to covery bluesowych klasyków. Jesienią 2005 roku zespół zaprezentował album Rockin' The Joint (Live At The Hard Rock) - zapis koncertu z klubu The Joint, w Hard Rock Hotel w Las Vegas, ze stycznia 2002 roku. Na krążku znalazło się 11 utworów ze wszystkich okresów ponad 30-letniej kariery amerykańskich rockmanów. Najstarsze, jak "Seasons Of Wither", pochodzą z 1974 roku, a najmłodsze z 2001 ("Light Inside").

Dokładnie rok później ukazała się kompilacja największych przebojów bostońskiego kwintetu - The Very Best Of: Devil's Got a New Disguise. Producentem The Very Best Of był Jeff Magid, a wśród 18 piosenek znalazły się m.in.: "Dude (Looks Like A Lady)", "Love In An Elevator", "Livin' On The Edge", "Cryin'", "Jaded", "Amazing", "Falling In Love (Is Hard On The Knees)" oraz "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing".
