Ich znaki rozpoznawcze to blues, psychodelia, riffy, rozbujane rytmy i improwizacja

Jeszcze przed wydaniem debiutanckiej płyty wygrali konkurs zespołów na festiwalu w Jarocinie w 2011 roku. Jurorów imprezy – dawniej punkowej, ostatnio hołubiącej tradycyjny rock – trio ujęło mieszanką ciężkiego riffowego grania w stylu Black Sabbath z nowym, śpiewnym indie rockiem (Queens Of The Stone Age czy Kings Of Leon) i hendriksowskimi solówkami. Oldskulowe rytmy i dobre, współczesne melodie.

Debiutancki album Magnificent Muttley ukazał się pod szyldem wytwórni Karrot Kommando, która zajmuje się raczej odmianami muzyki jamajskiej i folkowej. Skład zespołu wygląda podobnie do kultowego power trio Cream, w którym w końcu lat 60. młody Eric Clapton współpracował z riffowo grającym basistą Jackiem Brucem i czerpiącym z muzyki afrykańskiej perkusistą Gingerem Bakerem. Blues, psychodelia i riffy, rozbujane rytmy, a także elementy improwizacji to znaki rozpoznawcze także Muttleyów. Śpiewa i gra na basie Krzysiek Pożarowski, muzyk zespołu Paula i Karol, a wcześniej m.in. Renton. Wspierają go gitarzysta Kuba Jusiński oraz perkusista Olek Orłowski. Są młodzi, ale grają zdecydowanie staro.

Trudno znaleźć w Polsce podobny zespół – w tym sensie, że muzyczne pasje, współczesne i dawne, realizują na bardzo dobrym poziomie technicznym. Każdy z muzyków ma tyle samo miejsca. Działają razem od zimy 2010 roku. W Jarocinie nie tylko wygrali konkurs, Instytut Adama Mickiewicza przyznał im także wyróżnienie "Boarder Breaker" dla zespołu z największą szansą na zagraniczną karierę. --- Jacek Świąder, culture.pl

Their trademarks are blues, psychedelia, riffs, swinging beats and improvisation.

Before the release of their debut album in 2011, they won the competition of the bands at the Jarocin festival. The event’s jury – advocates of punk in the past, recently inclined to traditional rock – was charmed by the trio’s mixture of heavy riff music in the style of Black Sabbath, with new, tuneful indie rock a la Queens of the Stone Age or Kings Of Leon, and Hendrix-like solos, old school beats and contemporary, quality melodies.

Magnificent Muttley’s first record was released by the label Karrot Kommando, which specializes in Jamaican and folk genres. The structure of the band is similar to the supergroup trio Cream, which at the end of the 1960s meshed Eric Clapton collaborating with riffing bassist and vocalist Jack Bruce, and Ginger Baker, whose drumming was inspired by African music. Blues, psychedelia and riffs, swinging beats, as well as elements of improvisation constitute Magnificent Muttley’s trademarks.

Krzysiek Pożarowski, member of Paula & Karol, formerly also with Renton, sings and plays bass. He is accompanied by the guitarist Kuba Jusiński and drummer Olek Orłowski. They are young, but can undeniably play in the good old style.

It is difficult to find a similar band in Poland – one which realizes its musical obsessions, both contemporary and traditional, on a very high level. Each of the musicians receives equal attention. They have worked together since winter 2010. In Jarocin for the festival, not only did they win the main competition, but also received the Boarder Breaker title from the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, awarded to the band with greatest chances for an international career. ---Jacek Świąder, culture.pl
