Born in Detroit to Argentine parents, Diego Garcia was the frontman for NYC-based garage rockers Elefant and toured with acts like Interpol, Morrissey and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. His new solo work follows the songwriter exploring his Latin roots, conjuring the spirit of 1970s troubadours like Sandro, Jose Jose and Jobim with introspective lyrics, lush string arrangements and delicate Spanish guitars. It is the fusion of these Latin influences with the era's "anglo" visionaries, artists like David Bowie and Leonard Cohen, which makes this project truly special. First single 'You Were Never There' is already receiving early support from tastemaker stations like KCRW in Los Angeles . The song was co-written with Dhani Harrison (George's son). This is one of my favorite albums of 2011. Diego Garcia's 'Elefant' shines with gorgeous harmonies and luxurious melodies. Think 'Nilsson or Leonard Cohen by way of South America.' My favorite tunes are "You Were Never There" and "All Eyes on You," but honestly, this whole album is stellar.
