Preludes recorded 20/3/1979 at Kanagwa Kenmin Hall, Japan.
Richter is not usually thought of as a ... Chopin player, and yet he strides through the four Scherzos with an abundance of technique and deftly-coloured textures that make this version a definite frint-runner. Gramophone
This Regis coupling derives from two separate Richter recitals of 1977 and 1979, originally published by Olympia. There is some marvellous playing in the Préludes. As for the Scherzi, they are inspired: there are no more imaginative spontaneous performances in the catalogue. Everywhere there are fresh insights that seize the listener by the ear. This is Chopin playing of a truly remarkable calibre, and fortunately the remastering is of a high order: the piano quality is very real, full and immediate. Penguin Guide
