Mexican composer Revueltas had everything you want in a great composer: he was emotionally troubled, idealistic, alcoholic, and he died young. His music is like his life: intense, feverish, wild, and unlike anything by anyone else. Sensemaya means "The Chant Used to Kill a Snake," or something like that, and it's kind of like a hypnotic, Mexican Boléro. Redes (Nets) is a vibrant film score that the composer arranged as an orchestral suite. Along with the two splendid pieces by Orbon and Ginastera, this disc of Latin American masters deserves an honored place in every collection of great 20th-century music.
