Even though the widely-available Magic Touch was his breakthrough, this little-known 1982 release was actually Stanley Jordan's first album. Much of what he has recorded has been bloody excellent, but the blueprint for his music goes back to this. As far as I know, it is very rare and has not seen the light of day since its initial release.

I remember seeing Jordan perform solo, way back in 1985, with his customized Travis Bean guitar, and that event changed my perceptions of music forever. To this day I can recall hearing "Touch Of Blue" as it soared over the cool fall air of Greensboro, NC, and I never knew the name of the tune until I was fortunate enough to have Touch Sensitive fall into my hands some 12 years later. ---Reginod, rateyourmusic.com

Jordan wcześnie rozpoczął naukę gry na fortepianie, co dało mu przy okazji także pewną znajomość teorii muzyki. Jako nastolatek nauczył się samodzielnie grać na gitarze, występował też w połowie lat 70. w Chicago i okolicach z wieloma grupami muzyki rozrywkowej i soulowej.

W 1976 r. zdobył nagrodę na Reno Jazz Festival, co zachęciło go do podjęcia poważnych studiów muzycznych. W Princeton University studiował muzykę elektroniczną, teorię i kompozycję, a jego nazwisko (i talent) stało się znane tak szybko, że wkrótce pojawił się w gronie Dizzy'ego Gillespiego i Benny'ego Cartera.

Pierwszy album Jordana, "Touch Sensitive" (1982), składający się z produkcji solowych, sprzedawał się słabo.
