Born in 1945 in Brooklyn, NY and raised in Jackson, Mississippi, the daughter of a musician and a music-hall singer. By the age of six, Nanette was already a TV star, singing on her mother's TV show. She continued to make television appearances throughout her teens.

Nanette relocated to New York in 1964, kicking off her career in theatre by taking the understudy (and eventually the lead) role in the Broadway musical, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. In 1978, she performed at the Palais des Congres in Paris in the role of Sadia in Starmania, a rock opera by Luc Plamondon and Michel Berger. She returned in 1990 to star as 'La Diva' in Luc Plamondon's music-hall La Legende de Jimmy. From 2003-04, Nanette toured Quebec performing Nanette a l'extreme, a musical review of her greatest successes, followed in 2005 by Femme, a show written for her and toured throughout the province.

In 1966, Nanette met Canadian singer Tony Roman, who brought her to Quebec to record her first Francophone album. Two singles from the album became #1 hits, sitting at the top of the charts for several weeks. In 1967 she was awarded " Best New Female Artist of the Year" at the Gala des Artistes.

Nanette left for Europe in 1970, where, in London and Paris, she recorded with John Lennon, Ringo Starr, George Harrison, The Rolling Stones and the French superstar Johnny Hallyday. She toured Europe and Africa with Hallyday for nearly 3 years.

Nanette returned to Montreal in 1975 and recorded Lady Marmelade and Danser, Danser spawning the French disco trend. She followed the recordings up with three more albums and three Quebec tours. Her 1980 release, Chaude (1980), with Luc Plamondon, saw the track Call Girl capturing the Felix Award for the most sales of a single (1982). Changement d'adresse (CD 1990), features Nanette's collaboration with Serge Fiori, and in 1996, the international CD release Une a une CD hit the market. 2001 saw the release of Roots and Blues, receiving critical acclaim. She also took home the Lys Blues Awards 'Singer of the Year '. Vanilla Blues Cafe (2003) saw the track, a remake of Jean Leloup's I Lost My Baby, become a hit. Mississippi Rolling Stone (2006), received extensive airplay and took her back on tour throughout Quebec.

Launching a writing career, Nanette published her first book, a photo biography simply titled Nanette (1999). Nanette's biography, Rock N' Romance, written by Mario Bolduc, was released in 2008 and became a best seller. Still in fine form, 2012 saw the release of Nanette's latest CD, Just Getting Started, which is quickly rising to the top of the Quebec charts. ---calgarybluesfest.com
