Well Delmark, one of Blues premier labels, has done it again. Jimmy Burns, born in Dublin, Mississippi in 1943, presents a great set at the B.L.U.E.S. Club (Chicago) which gives the feeling of an old time Juke. This set is produced by Delmark, one of Chicago's oldest Blues labels. The song selection and the presentation is excellent. I would highly recommend the commentary selection that is included, so you can get some sense of Blues history and where Burns fits in the overall scene.

The guitar player, Anthony Palmer, is a well known player in the Chicago area. He was with Professor Eddie Lusk's Band with Otis Rush and Eric Clapton in last year's release "Live In Montreux" (he was 20 years younger in that!). He has a great tone and plays a great set. His guitar was given to him by Luther Allison. This DVD is for Blues purists, not someone who is looking for rock guitar. Burns is also a very good player and an exceptional slide player. He can also play a good harp.

This gives you the feel of the real Blues. It goes well with the DVD's "Last Of The Mississippi Jukes" and Robert Palmer's "Deep Blues". It shows one how the scene would have been in the early 1950s in the first electric Jukes. A very entertaining and informative DVD. The song selection is varied and interesting. I particularly like Jimmy's minor key gospel-inspired instrumental "Don't Be Late", a very haunting tune! Guest vocalist, Jesse Fortune, a former USA label recording artist, makes a big impression with his rendition of "Three O'Clock Blues". This DVD is a must for Blues fans it has good lenght and sound. The BBQ food looks good too! This is an entertaining addition to one's Blues library. ---Perry Celestino, amazon.com
