At the end of the 18th century, Seville was the city with the largest gathering of gypsies in Andalusia: 600 individuals and 157 families. As early as 1847, Serafin Estebanez Calderon, ''El Solitario'', celebrated Seville's 'tonadas'. The 'tonas' are now rarely sung and the singers recorded here prefer 'fandangos,'belerias', 'alegrias' or 'soleares'. What is still prevailing, however, is the number and quality of Sevilian artists.

Now that some 'modernistic' developments of the flamenco give cause for concern, these pieces are a proof that between the twenties and the thirties, these Sevillian artists, although they conducted experiments, never ceased to be true to the crystal of their art. --- thepiratebay.se.net
