LOU STEIN (pianist, composer) was born April 22, 1922 in Philadelphia, PA and passed away December 11, 2001 in Litchfield, Connecticut. A swing era pianist who performed with Glenn Miller and Ray McKinley’s band, Stein was also a popular and versatile freelance performer for session work, appearing on Charlie Parker’s “Stella by Starlight” and “Lover”. His most famous composition is “East of Suez”, recorded by Jackie and Roy and Moe Koffman. --- canadianjazzarchive.org
