Dorothy Kirsten (July 6, 1910 - November 18, 1992) was an American operatic soprano. And wow, how she was talented! Dorothy performed for thirty years at The New York Metropolitan Opera House and she also sang beautifully alongside great classic pop vocalists including Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby and Perry Como. She was in two films, The Great Caruso and Mr. Music--what couldn't she do? These tracks prove Dorothy's talent as a superb vocalist and that's grand. The music of Jerome Kern couldn't have been any better, either! True, there is occasionally a slight amount of surface noise here but it did not meaningfully interfere with my enjoyment of the music.

"Don't Ever Leave Me" from "Sweet Adeline" starts the track set; Dorothy handles this with panache and I'm very impressed! The music, as is the case with all the tracks here, fits in perfectly with her vocals. "I'm Old Fashioned" from "You Were Never Lovelier" again highlights Dorothy's fine ability to deliver a song flawlessly. Her excellent diction, sense of timing and sophisticated phrasing all combine to enhance her performance even more. "I've Told Ev'ry Little Star" is a sweet little number that is easy on the ear; and there's yet another gem when Dorothy sings "Yesterdays" from "Roberta." Excellent! ---Matthew G.
