This album, from the get-go, with "The Man I Love", is a superb collection of tunes. The melodies, the musicianship, the tempo, all, are splendid. Pat Halcox's trumpet playing, particularly in the title track, is on par with anybody else. Their version of Bei Mir Bist du Schoen is a nice take, and gets the toes tapping. The album closes with "Lover Come Back to Me" and it's another winner. Every tune on here is a nice pick, and Barber's arrangements honor the original melody but there's a nice twist to them.
