‘Raise The Roof’, Lizzy Parks’ debut album on Tru Thoughts, is an original and unforgettable introduction to one of the most talented singers of the moment. Deftly produced by Ben ‘Nostalgia 77’ Lamdin and with rich, dramatic orchestration from Riaan Vosloo of the acclaimed Nostalgia 77 Octet, ‘Raise The Roof’ embodies Lizzy’s fresh and modern personal twist on the singer-songwriter tradition, encompassing elements of various styles from retro jazz and boogie soul to ambient experimental music.
Singing, writing and playing music from the age of 7, Lizzy Parks took her love of music to another level when she graduated from the Birmingham Conservatoire with an honours degree in music in 2003. Lizzy played in pubs and clubs for several years and had her first experience of session work while still at university in 2001 with artist Chris Bowden - signed to the über cool Ninja Tune record label. Eight years and three fantastic albums later, Lizzy Parks has performed with some of the biggest names in UK Soul Jazz such as The Heritage Orchestra and Nostalgia77.
Lizzy is mostly gigging in the UK for the moment, as well as preparing her fourth album, due for release in 2010. But she's also aiming to make her mark on the French music industry, following her move to the French Riviera earlier this year. In an exclusive interview with FR2DAY, Lizzy describes how she was "surprised to find out that France is Tru Thoughts' biggest market in terms of record sales" and that she is "looking forward to being more involved in the French scene and learning about French audiences". We at FR2DAY are certainly big fans of Lizzy's music and can't wait to see her in some South of France venues in the very near future.
