Piotr Wyleżoł - born on 6th December 1976. A pianist, composer and improviser with a PhD at Academy of Music in Cracow, where he runs the piano class at the Faculty of Jazz and Light Music. Already as a child he has given classical music concerts and received awards at national piano competitions. At the age of 10 he played Haydn and Beethoven piano concertos with the Philharmonic Orchestra in Rybnik. In 1989 he graduated from 1st degree School of Music in Rybnik, and in 1995 – from Music College in Katowice. In year 2000 Wyleżoł got a master’s degree in piano at Faculty of Jazz and Light Music at Academy of Music in Cracow.
His jazz career started while still at the Academy, in the bands of Janusz Muniak, Jarek Śmietana and Marek Bałata. As a student he won numerous jazz competitions and festivals, like Jazz Juniors in Cracow or Jazz Standards Festival in Siedlce.
In 2001 he released his first album Yearning, recorded with Adam Kowalewski (double bass) and Łukasz Żyta (drums), which was voted one of the most interesting debut albums by the media. In 2006 he recorded another album, Piano Trio, with Łukasz Żyta and Michał Barański (double bass).
His third CD, Children’s Episodes, was the first Polish album released by Fresh Sound Records, a label known for publishing records by such celebrities as Brad Mehldau, Kurt Rosenwinkel or Chris Cheek. In 2010 the album was nominated for Fryderyki music award as the Album of the Year.
Throughout his career, Wyleżoł has had numerous opportunities to cooperate with the key figures of the international jazz scene, including Billy Hart, Gary Bartz, John Purcell, Steve Logan, Monty Watters, Bennie Maupin, Janis Siegel and Nigel Kennedy. He used to play with Kennedy regularly form 2005 to 2012, both as a pianist in a jazz combo and a harpsichord player in the repertoire of J.S. Bach and A. Vivaldi.
Simultaneously, he has been a demanded sideman, willingly engaged in recording albums with renowned Polish jazz musicians inclouding Janusz Muniak, Tomasz Szukalski, Jarek Śmietana, Tomasz Stańko, Jan Ptaszyn Wróblewski, Adam Pierończyk or Urszula Dudziak. ---Kajetan Prochyra, culture.pl
