Kiri Te Kanawa – soprano
Nelson Riddle & His Orchestra

If Kiri Te Kanawa sang popular songs under a pseudonym, she would be recognized as one of the greatest pop singers of all time. But because we know that she is an opera star, and that therefore when she sings these songs she is doing "cross-over," she's just a curiosity in this context. Well, I know that she is an opera star, I even know something about her growing-up as my wife was U.S. Consul General in Auckland where Kiri sang in night clubs and people still speak of her as the local, home-town girl, and I still think that she is one of the greatest pop singers of all time. I also think that Nelson Riddle was among the very best arrangers of such music. Put the two of them together, and you have a winner. This is a winner. ---George Goldberg, amazon.com
