1.Lobet den Herrn BWV230 2.Jesu, meine Freude BWV227 3.Fürchte dich nicht BWV228 4.Der Geist hilft unser Schwachheit auf BWV226 5.Komm, Jesu, komm BWV229 Regensburger Domspatzen Capella Academia Wien Hanns-Martin Schneidt – conductor
This is, in my opinion, a referential recording of the monumental Bach' work in theese motets, specially Jesu Meine Freude. The choral group builded of clean and ciear voices, under a very sensible and rich conducting of the master Schneidt. If you love Bach, you must have it. --- Nelson Nisenbaum, amazon.com
Although known as 'sacred' works, the Motets go way beyond that for me. They are, in fact, in a class by themselves and, as far as I'm concerned, defy categorization. For openers, on this extraordinary recording, the reverberation in the church is just right(so important). The perfect pitch of the voices(to my ear) combined with the powerful and moving phrasing makes for an overall stunning performance. The music flows in incrediby fluid waves and swells of harmony and counterpoint. At the end of certain sections, they hold the final chord just a 'little longer' for beautiful emphasis - the effect of which is phenominal. One of the best recordings of the Motets that I have heard. When I first listened to it, I got goosebumps, and still do. --- Richard J. Boyer, jsbach.org
