Wer an ihn gläubet Barbara Schlick - soprano Andreas Scholl – counter-tenor Christoph Pregardien – tenor Gotthold Schwarz - bass Choeur De Chambre Accentus Ensemble Baroque de Limoges Christoph Coin – cello & direction
This is a stunning period-instrument performance of three of Bach's cantatas, chosen because of prominent piccolo cello obbligato arias. Coin is an absolute master of the instrument, delivering a highly sensitive series of performances. Track 4 alone, the tenor aria from cantata 41, is worth the price of the disc. The singers are excellent - Pregardien has a hauntingly beautiful voice, clear but rich full, and fans of the countertenor Scholl will enjoy hearing him sing the alto part here. The choir has a warm sound and blends well with the orchestra in the chorales. ---amazon.com
