This collection of Baroque music consists of works by a composer that Segovia ceaselessly promoted throughout his career: J.S. Bach. As his compatriot Pablo Casals's performances of the Bach cello suites added so much to the great composer's reputation, Segovia's performances of Bach's lute suites and other works greatly enhanced the public's perception of the Leipzig master as the most "universal" of composers. His playing imbues Bach's music with a very special warmth and humanity. This disc is one of the most important and rewarding in the Segovia discography. ---David Hurwitz, Editorial Reviews
