The mystery of Firminus Caron (Amiens, ca. 1440 - 1495)
Very little is known about the life of this remarkable Franco-Flemish composer. Research to date has only been able to shed light on a few details of his career. Born, in all likelihood, in the vicinity of Cambrai he belonged to the circle of composers surrounding Guillaume Dufay. It is almost certain that later he worked in Rome, as is proven by the archiving of his works in Vatican codices. The lack of information regarding his life is, however, outshone by his musical output. His style is incredibly diverse, with his use of rhythmic proportions clearly way in advance of his contemporaries. --- huelgasensemble.be
