Turíbio Santos - Guitar, Musical Direction
Léandro Carvalho - Guitar

“A unique tribute to 19th century Brazil, this CD also counts on the participation of the young and talented guitarist Leandro Carvalho” LEARN MORE…

In 19th century Europe, many activities of music transcription took place, especially of symphonic pieces for solo instruments. Ference Liszt was among the people who made transcriptions for piano, and they were considered major music works. But it was Francisco Tárrega the man who led the activity of transcription for acoustic guitar in the period. That was certainly a hard task, because that instrument demands rich and detailed music writing, requiring a very fine technique.

The purpose of this CD is exactly to present transcriptions to acoustic guitar of Brazilian composer’s works. Such transcriptions are by Turíbio himself, Leandro Carvalho and by Sérgio Barboza.

The opera “O Guarani”, a milestone in Brazilian culture, as well as the “Suíte Quilombo”, which are works by composer Carlos Gomes, sound gorgeous on the guitar. On the other hand, the track “Batuque”, by the composer “Henrique Alves de Mesquita”, shows all the music power of the instrument. But perhaps nothing can be compared to the beautiful arrangements by Turíbio Santos’ to “Abre-Alas”, “Gaúcho” and “Atraente”, which display all the joy and richness of the work of Chiquinha Gonzaga.

Leandro Carvalho, in turn, translates to guitar all the splendour of Ernesto Nazareth’s music. Just listen to the tracks “Odeon”, “Brejeiro”, “Batuque”, “Apanhei-te, Cavaquinho”, “Tenebroso”, “Floraux” and “Escovado”!

Turibio Santos is considered by international critics and music experts as one of the best classical guitarists of today. --- onerpm.com
