While it undoubtedly is genuine medieval music, it doesn't sound like what you might expect. It reminds me more of something you would hear in an Arab marketplace or bazzar. Alternating notes played on a recorder until it drives you crazy. Many of the songs are rather similar (i.e. bad) and in my opinion it's a big disappointment. I had hoped for something to play at our medieval feasts and SCA re-enactments, but this doesn't make the grade at all. –Jean P. Lestrale

DuFay Collective are, in a word, brilliant, basically the Pink Martini of the music of the period. Their music never fails to transport you back in time. However, for the most past, medieval music isn't something you plug into the CD player on long drives between cities. This album is an exception. The focus is on medieval dance music of France, England and Italy, and the pieces are light-hearted and "catchy" enough to keep me entertained on replay for hours at a time. There are no vocals to speak of in any of these pieces, but the degree of excellence in each performer's command of their instrument is patently obvious. –EguesNiger
