The opera Wintermärchen is the second collaboration of the Belgian composer Philippe Boesmans and director Luc Bondy. Commissioned by the Théatre de la Monnaie in Brussels, Wintermärchen was world-premièred in 1999, and is being performed again in Paris in early November 2000. Boesmans's work, an adaptation of Shakespeare's "The Winter's Tale", is a kaleidoscopic mix of musical styles underlining the emotional and psychological states of the playwright's characters while acknowledging the play's timelessness. ---arkivmusic.com
