KRAZY KAT 1990 collection of "scarce and unissued" recordings from original acetates and 78rpm. According to notes "an expanded version...with 11 further obscure or unreleased recordings, has been issued as a Double Album set on KRAZY KAT KK 200." I have not seen the "Double Album" referred to as this cd( KK CD 05 ) has 22 tracks. As can be surmised from the use of acetates and 78rpm records, there is quite a bit of "surface noise" inherent in these recordings. I do not consider this an issue, however some might. As far as I'm concerned, the MUSIC is what's IMPORTANT! In these days of "sanitized" remastering, which often compromises the original quality for a "cleaner" sound, it is refreshing to hear the recordings just as if your grandfather had bequeathed his Hooker collection to you along with his tried and true 78rpm phonograph! As to the cd itself, it features solo and band numbers. One cookin' cut is the BOOGIE RAMBLER, another is NO MORE DOGGIN': both feature Jimmy Miller(tpt), Johnny Hooks(ts), Joe Woods(pno) and Tom Whitehead(dms). Two more cuts feature the AWESOME Eddie Kirkland on guitar: I'M A BOOGIE MAN and I CAME TO SEE YOU BABY. All in all a very satisfying listen whether you're just getting into early Hooker or looking for an "obscure" track or two! Check it out! 'Nuf said! (P.S. I notice that the cd on this page is the 2000 KRAZY KAT showing just 20 tracks, omitting the last two cuts I mention with Eddie Kirkland!!! I'm not sure what's shakin' there, but those two cuts are excellent!) --- Lonnie P. Fredette, amazon.com
