The liner notes relate Anne played her first Nashville show in a bar called The Basement for 10 people, one of whom was Lucinda Williams who asked Anne to go on tour with her. This set is stripped down live with just Anne & guitar. The opener "Ballad of an Outlaw Woman" haunts, "To keep yourself alive, Got to hide what you feel inside." "My One & Only" twists with an ache and longing, just Anne & guitar, "I said goodbye to Joey & James." The track also appears on her CD Amazing Ordinary Things. Anne churns up a storm on Jimi Hendrix's "Voodoo Chile" that appeared on his Electric Ladyland album. Anne dedicates "Empty Bed Blues," a Bessie Smith blues track, to Lucinda and then plays a mean slide, "I woke up this morning with an awful aching head; My new man gone & left me, just a woman in an empty bed." "Since I first saw your face, I've been lost without a trace," Anne wails on the acoustic "Fitzroy Blues." This is a fine set by one of Australia's finest imports. Enjoy! ---Lee Armstrong, amazon.com
