Solon Fishbone is the foremost leader from south and vitally important pioneer of Blues music in Brazil. A true guitar wizard, Fishbone's dynamic, explosive style catapulted him to the top of the burgeoning Brazilian Blues scene, quickly becoming a regular headline performer at major Blues festivals and events. "Solon Fishbone y Los Cobras" have played to enthusiastic audiences throughout Brazil and South America for 20 years and were largely responsible for the boom of the Blues in Porto Alegre and southern Brazil. Around 1993 he began appearing on the scene in the largest Brazilian city of São Paulo and quickly secured a record deal with a major Brazilian label who released his 1994 debut album, "Blues From The Southlands" which was a resounding hit and a choice pick by music critics "in the know".
During his career Solon Fishbone has shared the stage and played with many music luminaries including Wilson Pickett, Pinetop Perkins, Jeff Healey, Roomful Of Blues, Luther Allison, Derek Trucks, Billy Branch, John Primer, Phil Guy and Eddie C. Campbell, who's album "Show de Bola", was produced and recorded by Solon, receiving high praise in Chicago. With his 1996 release of "Heart and Soul", in addition to touring extensively throughout Brazil, Fishbone firmly established his place in the Brazilian Blues music world. His third album, "Blues Galore", was released in 1999 and was considered by Guitar Player Magazine - Brazil as "...a new way to the Blues in the land of Samba and Carnival".
Though the Blues is where his heart is, Fishbone's influences are far-reaching, ranging from traditional Blues masters Albert, BB and Freddie King, Eric Clapton and the Vaughan Brothers to Jazz Masters Jimmy Smith, Kenny Burrell, Wes Montgomery and John Coltrane as well as contemporary guitar greats such as Carlos Santana, Ronnie Earl and Roben Ford. In 2004 Solon released "Instrumental Mood", an album that blends Blues, Jazz and Latin music elements.
Solon's latest album, "Fish Tones", features band mates Cristiano Bertolucci on drums and John Maldonado on keyboards as well as special appearances by several other Blues artist friends. "Fish Tones" brings together all of Solon's musical influences, creating a kind of musical mosaic that encompasses Jazz, on "Red Top", Delta Blues on " Blues For Mother Earth" featuring Gaspo Harmonica, Texas blues on Freddie King's, "See See Baby", featuring young Brazilian Blues singer Alice Azambuja, and "I Love The Woman", featuring harmonicist Ale Ravanello. "Fish Tones" opening track, "What's On Your Mind", features special guest appearances by Brazilian harmonica virtuoso Alex Rossi and Mississippi native, guitarist and founding member of the seminal Brazilian Blues band, "Blues Etilicos", Greg Wilson. Solon pays tribute to Texas Blues Masters Albert Collins on the tune, "C" As In Collins", and BB King with his traditional tune, "The Woman I Love". "Fish Tones" also showcases several original tunes including a classic low down shuffle, "She's So Hard To Find", and Latin inspired instrumental tracks, "Por La Isla" and "Cool Breezes".
"Fish Tones" has already received rave reviews and is destined to be one of the top Blues releases of 2012. --- soundcloud.com/solon-fishbone
