Willie Dixon formed and led successive versions of this touring band from 1969 onwards. All the singers run through their favourite numbers. Shines sings with his usual 200 per cent commitment and plays fiery guitar throughout, Horton and Slim are in good but not top form, and James and Dixon are reliable, although one of the things Dixon can be relied on for is an irritating high-register solo, here inflictedon 'Sunnyland Boogie'. The big drawbacks are the recording quality, which has the muddiness that says 'airshot', and the mixing, which is eccentric. The drums are too far forward, and everyone alse's singing and playing keep switching from relatively clear to muffled and distant; Sunnyland Slim, of all people, sounds as if he's singing in the next room. There's better material available by all concerned, and it renders this CD redundant.
