Knocking on Heaven’s Door

Rock Notes

In 1972 Rudy Wurlitzer asked Bob Dylan for co-operation. He was in the final stages of writing the script for the film Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid. He wanted Dylan to create the soundtrack.

Wurlitzer needed a theme song. As Dylan had nothing else to do at the time, he set about reading the script. He liked the film characters and quickly wrote the ballad 'Billy'. He even asked Wurlitzer for a role in the film. Wurlitzer promised to help, so Dylan and his wife went to Durango...

Christmas with Kiri Te Kanawa

Classical Notes

I have been planning to write about this lady for a long time. I have resolved on doing it now, because she sings carols beautifully.

Minnie The Moocher

Jazz Notes

Minnie The Moocher is the greatest hit of Cab Calloway. The song was recorded in 1931 and, although it was the time of the big crisis in the USA, it turned out to be a great success. The sales exceeded one million records.

The song wasn’t Cab Calloway original idea. He used a song from 1927 called 'Willie the Weeper', which author and performer was Frankie 'Half-Pint' Jaxon.
