Bruel was nominated for three different prizes at the "Victoires de la musique" awards in February 1991, but failed to walk off with any of them. It must be said that the singer's phenomenal success with young (largely female) audiences did not always endear him to other music fans, and critics often mocked the phenomenon of Bruel-mania.

Despite snubs from professionals in the record industry, Bruel continued to attract tens of thousands of fans. When he performed at the "Printemps de Bourges" festival in May 1991, fans snapped up 8,000 tickets in just a few hours. Bruel’s singles also continued to soar to the top of the charts, both in Europe and Canada. Bruel’s videos, shot in several different languages, also proved extremely popular and the singer became a regular fixture on TV programmes and chat shows all over Europe. In June 1991 Bruel received the Vincent Scotto award from the Sacem (the French association of songwriters and composers).

Bruel’s tour that summer attracted record number of fans and the singer gave a memorable performance at the "Francofolies" festival in la Rochelle. By November sales of the album "Alors regarde" had already reached two and a half million (they would eventually go on to top three million). November also saw the release of "Si ce soir", a live album recorded during the 90-91 tour, which also did extremely well, selling a cool million copies. --- rfimusic.com

Although Bruel aspired to be a football (soccer) star as a youth, he decided to pursue singing after seeing Michel Sardou in 1975. His first success came as an actor, however, in 1979's Le Coup de sirocco. He continued acting in films, on television and in the theater while pursuing his singing career. His first single, "Vide" ("Empty"), released in 1982, was not a success, but the follow up, "Marre de cette nana-là" ("Fed up with that chick"), was a hit. In 2003, he had his last name officially changed to Bruel-Benguigui, his stage name with his birthname, before his partner, the writer and playwright, Amanda Sthers gave birth to his first child, Oscar, on August 19. On September 21, 2004, he wed the 24-year-old Sthers; it is his first marriage. His second child, Léon Bruel was born on the 28th September, 2005. The couple separated in 2007.

As of 2004 Bruel has acted in more than 40 different television and film productions and made five studio albums and several live albums. In 2002 Bruel released Entre Deux, a double CD of classic chanson that features duets with Charles Aznavour, Jean-Louis Aubert, Jean-Jacques Goldman, Alain Souchon and Renaud, among others. It sold two million copies and made Bruel France's best paid singer of the year. At the beginning of 2005, in response to the South Asian tsunami of December 26, 2004, Bruel wrote the song "Et puis la terre" to benefit the Red Cross. His latest album "Des souvenir devant" was his 4th charttopper in France. In addition to acting and singing, Bruel is a world class professional poker player. He won a World Series of Poker bracelet in 1998 for the $5,000 Limit Hold'em event. As of 2009 he has earned more than $900,000 in live tournament play. His 10 cashes at the WSOP account for $411,659 of those winnings. He also comments the World Poker Tour in his home country.

Pochodzi z rodziny żydowskiej. Jego rodzice rozwiedli się w 1960 r. Wychowywała go matka, która później ponownie wyszła za mąż i urodziła dwoje kolejnych dzieci. Po uzyskaniu przez Algierię niepodległości (1962) rodzina przeniosła się do Francji. Już jako kilkuletnie dziecko zainteresował się muzyką i teatrem. Uczęszczał do prestiżowego paryskiego liceum im. Henryka IV. Planował karierę piłkarską, ale w 1975 r., po obejrzeniu w Olympii koncertu Michela Sardou, postanowił zostać piosenkarzem. Zadebiutował jako aktor filmowy w 1979 roku (Le Coup de sirocco). W Polsce najbardziej jest znany z roli w filmie "Jaguar" u boku Jeana Reno i drobnej roli w "Sabrinie" z Harrisonem Fordem. Później występował zarówno w filmach kinowych i telewizyjnych, jak i w teatrze. W 1987 r. wydał pierwszą płytę – De face. Lata 90. przyniosły wielką falę popularności artysty, nie tylko we Francji, ale i w innych krajach europejskich. Fenomen ten nazwano Bruelmanią.

Patrick aurait-il trouvé sa véritable voie ? En réalisant cet album, Patrick Bruel s'est attaqué à un projet fort ambitieux. Celui d'interpréter les chansons mythiques de l'entre-deux-guerres et de réunir sur ce double CD treize invités de renom (notamment Johnny Hallyday, Jean-Louis Aubert, Sandrine Kiberlain, Renaud, Laurent Voulzy, Charles Aznavour, Alain Souchon, Zazie ou Danielle Darrieux) pour douze duos inoubliables.

Entre-Deux, c'est tout d'abord un style mêlant harmonieusement un accordéon qui s'enivre ici et là de guitares sèches sur des airs de java, de valse ou de jazz à la Django Reinhardt. Mais c'est aussi un état d'esprit ponctué d'espoir, de gaieté et d'émotion. Les plus âgés plongeront dans leurs souvenirs en évoquant les guinguettes et le petit bal du samedi soir. Les plus jeunes laisseront libre cours à leur imagination en écoutant "Mon amant de Saint-Jean" ou "Qu'est-ce qu'on attend pour être heureux". Et puis comment ne pas citer les noms de grands artistes comme Charles Trenet, Jean Sablon ou Maurice Chevalier, sans lesquels cet album n'aurait d'une certaine manière jamais vu le jour ? --Valérie Dupouy

Avec autant de prestigieux duettistes : Aznavour, Voulzy, Renaud, Sandrine Kiberlain et Emmanuelle Béart, Aubert, Goldman, Hallyday, Cabrel, Zazie, Souchon, Kahimi Kari et la sublime Danielle Darrieux, Patrick n'avait pas le droit de se planter. Aussi, a-t-il soigné son album jusqu'aux moindres détails de photos et graphisme de pochette, sans toutefois oser l'efficacité directe des années 30 (son portrait signé Harcourt n'est qu'en verso d'album). C'est un peu pareil pour les arrangements (signés David et Fabrice Moreau ainsi que Régis Ceccarelli), moins pompiers que ceux de l'époque. Mais c'est certainement mieux ainsi : du dépouillé "Temps des cerises", cocroqué par Goldman (frère d'un nouveau Communard, un soixante-huitard au destin tragique) au très percutant "Ramona", en passant par le rafraîchissant "J'ai ta main" avec Zazie, ces 24 titres marchent au-dessus du vide, sur le fil tenu, entre respect des créateurs et créativité...

Après "Mon amant de Saint-Jean" choisi pour premier single, on se demande quels seront les suivants, tellement le choix est vaste. Quant aux interprétations du multimillionnaire du disque, auquel certains reprochent parfois de ne pas toujours être en place, elles font mentir ses détracteurs par leur précision (avec quelques libertés volontaires) et leur émotion. Que ce soit dans les titres bien français de Trénet, les adaptations américaines de Cole Porter ou la chanson originale "À contretemps" signée avec la fidèle Marie-Florence Gros et son demi-frère, David Moreau. Après avoir osé chanter les idoles de son enfance (Brel dans "Jeff", Aznavour dans "Mes emmerdes") et ainsi collaboré à leur traversée des générations, Bruel, connu pour son goût du poker, fait aujourd'hui son plus gros coup. Celui de rendre à la vie les chansons qui faisaient rire et pleurer les arrières grands-parents de ses fans… ---amazon.fr

Patrick Bruel is an iconic French actor and singer, who rose to popularity during the 1990s. Bruel's 1989 album ‘Alors regarde’ (Now Look) was recorded in New York with a combination of French and American musicians, and it quickly garnered Bruel a contingent of adult fans to add to his teenage base.

‘Alors regarde’ sold upwards of three million copies, and the album's tour in 1990 sold out arenas for nights on end. The French media began using the term "Bruelmania" to describe the reactions of the singer's adoring and mostly female fans. Although he failed to win a major French music award, he earned the Best Male Artist of the Year award at the Victoires de la Musique ceremonies in 1992.
