For those that didn't know, Roger Waters was the main songwriter for Pink Floyd. The music is absolutely groundbreaking, and sounds like no other. It has some of the best guitar and keyboard solo's ever in my opinion. The music is absolutely groundbreaking, and sounds like no other. The DVD was filmed live at the Rose Garden in Portland, Oregon. It is a 3 hour long concert and covers all of the Floyd classics such as Time, Comfortably Numb, Wish You Were Here, Money, Dogs, and many more. It also features a "best of" of Rogers solo work. It comes with a 30 minute long documentary on preparing for the tour, one of the few DVD side documentaries worth watching. Roger Waters' tours of the U.S. during the summers of 1999 and 2000 were a pleasant surprise, since the reclusive rocker had not toured since 1987. In his liner notes to this two-CD set drawn from those performances, Waters does not shy away from discussing his antipathy to big concert venues. But he makes a distinction between stadiums and arenas, and he also notes that he found himself becoming more comfortable in the role of a frontman. This more personable Roger Waters isn't what comes across on the album, but the closer relationship he perceives to his audience is nevertheless palpable. As the man who wrote Pink Floyd's lyrics, he is far more concerned with their meaning than his old bandmates, and his singing is emphasized without robbing the music of its magisterial power. In fact, with a band boasting several guitarists to make up for the lack of David Gilmour, Waters effectively re-creates the sound of his Pink Floyd work, which dominates the set list. The album contains only five selections out of 24 from Waters' solo albums: one track from The Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking and four from Amused to Death, with Radio K.A.O.S. left out completely. He does not choose the most obvious solo material, but he makes his selections work, especially "Perfect Sense (Pts. I & 2)" and "It's a Miracle," from Amused to Death. A new song, "Each Small Candle," finds him still obsessed with world problems, but seemingly more optimistic. Waters had seemed to allow his anger about Pink Floyd's continuance without him to keep him from claiming his own part of their legacy. Po latach koncertowej absencji Waters zatęsknił za graniem przed publicznością. W 1999 roku ruszył w pierwszą od lat trasę, która z przerwami trwała do 2002 roku. Płyta In The Flesh – Live przynosi materiał zarejestrowany podczas kilku występów w 2000 roku.

Paradoksalnie Waters zatęsknił w tym czasie za muzyką macierzystej formacji. Znaczącą część wypełniają zatem kompozycje z The Wall, The Dark Side Of The Moon, Wish You Were Here czy Animals. Poza tym w odróżnieniu od trasy Radio KAOS, podczas której utwory Pink Floyd były wykonywane w konwencji tamtej płyty, tym razem artysta postanowił jak najwierniej otworzyć klimat oryginałów. W czym pomogli mu znakomici muzycy, jak stary znajomy, gitarzysta Snowy White (grał także z Pink Floyd) czy klawiszowiec Jon Carin, przede wszystkim zaś znakomity gitarzysta Doyle Bramhall II, obdarzony przy tym ciekawą barwą głosu. To on, czasami w towarzystwie Carina, przejął partie wokalne Gilmoura. Znakomicie zaśpiewał Breathe czy Money. Carin za to wspaniale odśpiewał Dogs, jeden z lepszych momentów floydowej części płyty. Mistrz ceremonii popisał się za to znakomitą interpretacją Welcome To The Machine, a także nieco bardziej rozbudowaną wersją Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun.

Choć trochę szkoda, że ilość solowego materiału podczas tych koncertów ograniczył do minimum. Na szczęście wybór padł niemal na same cudeńka. Najpierw 5:06 AM (Every Strangers Eyes), a później set z Amused To Death, z Perfect Sense, It’s A Miracle i tytułowym na czele.

In The Flesh – Live przynosi także coś premierowego. Po Comfortable Numb, w którym solówkę gitarową odgrywa duet White-Bramhall,pojawia się kompozycja Each Small Candle. Świetny, dramatyczny utwór w duchu dokonań Pink Floyd z połowy lat siedemdziesiątych. Rozbudza nadzieje na kolejną płytę studyjną. ---Michał Kirmuć, terazrock.pl

Just a couple of days I obtained(also from ebay) a CD by Rogers Waters called "Is it the Fifth"(Universal Italy 0602527545330) featuring seven rare tracks(Get Back to Radio,Going to Live in L.A.,Molly's Song,Lost Boys Calling,To Kill the Child,Leaving Beirut and Hello(I love you)plus When the Wind blows(about 25 minutes long).

This CD ist not listed at amazon or anywhere else! Universal Italy shows Roger Waters in its artist list but not this particular title(only a rerelease of The Wall at Berlin 1990).The CD istself has all the correct markings a legit release has,so I assume this item was withdrawn shortly after its release. --- joachim50, forums.stevehoffman.tv
