Danko Jones explodes back onto the scene with new album Fire Music; an appropriate title, given the blazing nature of their music. The Canadian band hit us up with another bout of good old’ rock n’ roll, with metal and punk overtones that really help to hit a new high. In essence, the kind of music you want to dance, mosh, and get absolutely mental to.

‘Wild Woman’, the album opener, is as poignant as it is angst-fuelled. Lead singer Danko Jones‘ (no, this isn’t a typo, the band really is named after the lead singer) vocal range truly comes through in a tune that seemingly combines both power ballad and punk perfectly. The same can be said for song ‘Do You Wanna Rock’, where we see another side of Danko Jones’s style; tense, bitty, and filled with breakdowns in both Jones’ voice and the music.

Catchy riffs and guitar-led songs are yet another string in Danko Jones’ extensive bow, as the song ‘Gonna Be a Fight Tonight’ and ‘Live Forever’ show. One can see why the band is called ‘Danko Jones’, as whilst bassist John Calabrese and new drummer Rich Knox play a vital role in the band, Jones on guitar and vocals really steals the show. Lovers of the bass guitar will be swept away by Calabrese’s impressive skill, but devotees of the guitar are in for a treat with Jones’ flashy style.

The album is, in essence, an adrenaline-fuelled ride from start to finish. Danko Jones have been around since 1996, and certainly know the score when it comes to their music, and playing rock music. However, it’s not perfect; certain songs, such as ‘The Twisting Knife’, don’t quite live up to the standards set by the rest of the album. It’s rough round the edges. It forces passion down your throat. It’s angry. It’s beautiful. It’s, well, raw. And since when has rock n’ roll been anything except uncontrolled and bursting with emotions? Fire Music is a definite must-have album for anybody even remotely interested in rock music. One to look out for. --- hitthefloor.com

There's something really appealing about the simplicity of Danko Jones' style. Conventional song structures, minor chord progressions, sing-along choruses and hilarious lyrics about sex, love and break-ups are the trio's signature features that have been omnipresent on their subsequent albums since the onset of the last decade. Unlike many retro rockers, Danko Jones have always proven capable of maintaining top form throughout their career delivering one remarkably consistent record after another. Rock and Roll Is Black and Blue continues the streak of excellent LPs that nevertheless fail to match the amazing songwriting of 2003's audacious We Sweat Blood.

Danko Jones' sixth album marks another line-up change: drummer Dan Cornelius has been replaced by Atom Willard of The Offspring fame. In normal circumstances this would bring some major alternations to any outfit's sound, but here it changes virtually nothing. The fixed style of the trio still revolves around lean, no-holds-barred party rockers that bear a close resemblance equally to fast-paced punk and sleazy classic rock. Thus, the album feels totally in line with the vast majority of the material Danko and his collaborators have recorded so far. It's a downright appeasing conclusion given the group's aptitude for crafting captivating robust rock tunes is in a class by itself.

Similarly to the previous releases of the band, Rock and Roll Is Black and Blue feels like a one-man-show type of record due to the dominant presence of the charismatic frontman. Danko (aka Mango Kid) delivers his most assuredly melodic vocal performance which abounds with infectious harmonies and hooks. His lyrics remain wonderfully irreverent exploring perhaps all-too-familiar topics with unabashed swagger. Another distinguishing aspect of the record is slick guitar play that ranges from crunchy chugging riffs to filthy soloing that's reminiscent of blues. The rhythm section is also as audible as ever with corpulent bass lines and dynamic drum fills making the sound of the trio complete.

Even though Danko Jones are evidently on top of their game, Rock and Roll Is Black and Blue is basically a rehash of their last two albums combining playfulness of Never Too Loud with a heavier approach of Below The Belt. The sole slightly surprising moments come with classy Led Zeppelinesque hard rock of "You Wear Me Down" and blasphemous "I Believed In God" which features a gospel choir. This is still a routinely ferocious and enormously fun spin on punk-infused vintage rock. However, it's somewhat underwhelming that the group as experienced as this refuses to progress beyond their safety zone. No matter how well performed, their style may become obsolete in next to no time. ---Greg Fisher, sputnik.com

Danko Jones, the band, stand and deliver crisp, catchy and crunchy hard rock with such exciting consistency that they have cultivated an equally loyal and consistently fervent fan base worldwide.

Danko Jones, the frontman and guitarist, writes such irrepressible, hook-laden-yet-crunchy electric tunes that it’s impossible not to get sucked in by the alt-punk edge to his songs. The net result is a live performance driven by this power trio’s sweat and electricity. And now, for the first time in their two decade career, Danko Jones are bringing that live inspiration (and perspiration!) to CD & DVD/BluRay with the release of LIVE AT WACKEN on January 29th, 2016.

Featuring their 18 song 2015 set and various bonus material items spread across the formats, LIVE AT WACKEN provides firey bursts of energy, quirky alternative riffery and Jones’ own electric personality, one which has seen him become an independent commentator, spoken word artist and columnist for The Huffington Post. Bonus material will include a track-by-track commentary, an exclusive backstage interview with Jones and his spoken word performance from the 2012 Wacken Festival.

Live At Wacken will be followed by a busy 2016 as Danko Jones once again take their firebrand rock’n’roll revival on another world tour. Irrepressibly energetic, unflinchingly honest and engagingly addictive, Danko Jones never give anything less than 110% whether on stage, screen or stereo; unsurprisingly, everybody wants some! --- udr-music.com
