Zhanna Vladimirovna Bichevskaya (or Jeanne Bichevskaya; Russian: Жанна Владимировна Бичевская, born June 17, 1944), is a prominent Soviet and Russian bard and folk musician.

In the 1970s, Zhanna started to perform Russian folk songs and romances. At that time she was deeply influenced by Bulat Okudzhava, and she quickly gained popularity in Russia and abroad with some critics dubbing her the Russian Joan Baez. Her unique style of music is often described as Russian country-folk. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Zhanna Bichevskaya's songs started to have more political, nationalist and spiritual themes. She performed a series of White Guard officer's songs, as well as a series of religious songs. The lyrics to the latter were composed by Father Roman, a priest of the Pskovo-Pechorsky Monastery.

In the 1970s, Zhanna started to perform Russian folk songs and romances. At that time she was deeply influenced by Bulat Okudzhava, and she quickly gained popularity in Russia and abroad with some critics dubbing her the Russian Joan Baez. Her unique style of music is often described as Russian country-folk. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Zhanna Bichevskaya's songs started to have more political, nationalist and spiritual themes. She performed a series of White Guard officer's songs, as well as a series of religious songs. The lyrics to the latter were composed by Father Roman, a priest of the Pskovo-Pechorsky Monastery. In 1999, Zhanna also became the host of her own show on Voice of Russia radio station. Her album "Hieromonk Romans's songs" was benedicted by Hieromonk Roman in 1997.

 

Żanna Biczewska (ur. 17 czerwca 1944 w Moskwie) - rosyjska kompozytorka i pieśniarka ludowa, interpretatorka rosyjskich ballad i romansów.

Edukację muzyczną ropoczęła od ukończenia szkoły muzycznej w klasie gitary. W latach 1966-1971 studiowała w Instytucie Sztuki Cyrkowej i Estradowej. Już wówczas zaczęła gromadzić i zapisywać teksty ludowe. W czasie studiów podjęła pracę nauczycielki muzyki w Zagorsku a jednocześnie śpiewała jako solistka w zespole Eddiego Rozera. W latach 1971-73 była solistką instrumentalno-wokalnego zespołu "Dobryje mołodcy". Poza tradycyjnym repertuarem rosyjskim i białoruskim śpiewa też ballady Bułata Okudżawy. Występuje z mężem, kompozytorem i aranżerem Giennadijem Ponomariowem.

Wielokrotnie nagradzana w ZSRR, koncertowała w całej Europie. Często gościła w Polsce, również jako jurorka Festiwalu Piosenki Radzieckiej w Zielonej Górze.

 

 

Zhanna Bichevskaya - Narodnaya artistka Rossii, obladatel'nica priza "Zolotaya gitara San-Remo". Zakonchila gosudarstvennoe uchilische cirkovogo i estradnogo iskusstva. Nekotoroe vremya prepodavala gitaru v muzykal'noj shkole detyam. Izvestnost' priobrela ispolneniem narodnoj i avtorskoj pesni. V repertuare, v chastnosti, semnadcat' svoeobraznyh aranzhirovok pesen Bulata Okudzhavy, kotorogo pevica nazyvaet svoim uchitelem. V 1973-1979 - solistka Moskoncerta. V 1988 Zhanna prinyala kreschenie i obratilas' v tvorchestve v osnovnom k duhovnoj pravoslavnoj lirike i teme rossijskogo samoderzhaviya (belogvardejskaya pesnya i cikly pesen o care). Bog i Car' - segodnya dve glavnye temy tvorchestva Bichevskoj, a v poslednih al'bomah "Car' Nikolaj" i "Russkaya Golgofa" - edinstvennye. V poslednie gody zapisala neskol'ko al'bomov. Sredi nih "Imeni Tvoemu, Gospodi (duhovnye pesnopeniya)" i "Russkaya golgofa". Pervyj blagoslovil svyatejshij Patriarh Moskovskij i Vseya Rusi Aleksij II. V al'bom voshli russkie narodnye pesni, pesni ieromonaha Romana, arhidiakona Romana, pesni Bichevskoj i ee muzha Gennadiya Ponomareva, kotoryj vystupaet vmeste s nej v koncertah kak pevec i gitarist.

Zhanna Bichevskaya’s political and religious stances attracted some criticism and controversy. She has been an active proponent of granting sainthood to tsar Ivan the Terrible.
