Within three years the J.J.Band has developed into one of Poland's best blues groups, the winner of many festival awards. In 2003 they issued their first CD - GOOD DAY FOR THE BLUES and in 2004 they were back with SEARCHING FOR THR BLUES. Both albums became the CDs of the year (2003 and 2004) in the annual TWOJ BLUES magazine readers' poll. In the same poll the J.J.Band was honoured the title of the band of the year 2003 and 2004.

I was waiting for this album with great hope and curiosity. First of all, I was curious whether the band would manage to convey their stage power on a record. Having listened to the CD several times, I can assure you that it is another fine record of debuting artists. Most importantly, the album shows J.J. There are always two possibilities after a successful debut: releasing another hit album, as good as or even better than the first one, or cashing in on the initial success and gradually falling into oblivion. From the very start, J.J. Band set themselves very high standards. Album of the Year and Band of the Year were an extraordinary achievement for artists who had just made their debut. With their second album, J.J. Band prove that they wasted no time and still have a lot of potential. First of all, the band has a firmer sound, you can hear the easiness and lightness in their playing. The two natural frontmen, Jacek Jagus and Bartek Leczycki, are now "reinforced" by Pawel Ziólkowski whose "team play" as well as fine piano solos are becoming increasingly important elements of the band's sound.

J.J. Band remains faithful to the Texas style, which you can hear on the first two tracks of the album, Voodoo Woman and Searchin' For The Blues, both composed by Jagus. It also turns out that the band is able to create the right mood in slower songs as well, for instance in another piece composed by Jagus, Blues For You, where he plays one of the finest solos in his career. The CD contains three more compositions by Yogi: the dynamic Light Boogie Song that seems to be taken straight out of Ronnie Baker Brooks' repertoire, then the fiery I Was Wrong and the tranquil, acoustic ballad Behind Your Back, which neatly rounds off the album and features a jazzy harmonica part played by Leczycki.

There are also songs already known from excellent live performances. In J.J. Band's interpretation, they assume new forms, quite distant from the original version. These include Sting's Roxanne that sounds as if it had been penned by Tadeusz Nalepa, a fine medium-funk rendition of The Thrill Is Gone as well as the Three O'Clock Blues which sounds just like Stieve Ray Vaughan might have played it. Dzem's hit Sen o Victorii in the form of a country ballad with a stylish harmonica by Leczycki may sound like a sacrilege to some ears (Dzem is a legendary Polish blues rock band, headed by the late Rysiek Riedel). Last but not least, two tracks with guest appearances: first, an exuberant rock'n'roll version of Tina Turner's It Takes Two, featuring Ola Lysiak in duet with Jacek Jagus. The performance is full of energy thanks to both vocalists and Ziólkowski's keyboard. You can hear Ola in one more song, Six Strings Down, written by Art Neville upon hearing about Stevie Ray Vaughan's death. Here J.J. Band is assisted by Piotr Michalak on Hammond organ and Jacek Szreniawa on guitar and lead vocal. J.J. Band's version is pretty "traditional" but provides the same thrill as the original performance from the "Tribute To Stevie" concert (released on a DVD).

This record will be a major candidate for the "Album of the Year" award in the Blues Top 2004 ranking, although J.J. Band will face really strong competition this year. ---Andrzej Matysik, Twoj Blues

In September 2010 GutMusic Records released new, remarkable album of applauded J.J. Band blues crew from Poland. The album includes early work of Tadeusz Nalepa, so called “the godfather of Polish blues”. In the early years, Nalepa preformed with the legendary band Brakout, putting together well-known tracks such as: “The River of Youth”, “What Happened to The Flowers”, “What do I Believe “,“They’ll Come to Take Me”, and many other. For this project, the band invited many talented guests, among them: Magda Piskorczyk, Karolina Cygonek, Maciek Lipina and Bartek Szopinski. These artists represent the new generation of Polish blues scene. They bring new sound, arrange, and quality to what is known as fundamental to Polish blues background. The album is not just another tribute to Nalepa’s testament, but new vocal and instrumental approach to his groundbreaking achievement. “J.J. Znakomita muzyka Tadeusza Nalepy w połączeniu ze świetnymi tekstami Bogdana Loebla to nie jest lektura obowiązkowa – dla wielu z nas to znacznie więcej. Te utwory tkwią głęboko w nas.

Nagranie płyty z nowymi wersjami słynnych utworów to ryzykowne i trudne przedsięwzięcie. Oryginalne wykonania są głęboko zakorzenione i niekiedy trudno zaakceptować nowe. Pogłoski o zamiarach wydania przez grupę J.J Band płyty z kompozycjami Tadeusza Nalepy pojawiły się już dwa lata temu i wzbudziły moje zainteresowanie tym bardziej, że z wcześniejszej płyty zrealizowanej przez inną grupę wykonawców została mi w pamięci głównie Jean Lubera za wyjątkową interpretację oraz Andrzej Nowak za przekaz specyficznego klimatu pierwotnych wykonań. Od czasu pojawienia się tych pogłosek minęły dwa lata i wreszcie nowe dzieło jest już dostępne. Premiera nastąpiła 18 września 2010 roku.

Młodzi muzycy bez kompleksów przedstawiają słuchaczom atrakcyjne, świeże aranżacje, prezentując wysoki poziom umiejętności. Trzonem wykonawców jest zespół J.J. Band, który wziął odpowiedzialność za całość, ale zaprosił przyjaciół do udziału w tym projekcie. Przyjaciele nie zawiedli.

Już początek pierwszego nagrania w wykonaniu J.J.Band („Rzeka dzieciństwa”) zapowiada niezwykłość nagrań. Łatwo łagodnie odpłynąć słuchając urokliwej Karoliny Cygonek w nagraniu „W co mam wierzyć”. Brawurowa wersja „Oni zaraz przyjdą tu” to dla mnie najbardziej energetyczne nagranie płyty, w którym prezentują się dwaj członkowie grupy Devil Blues: Krzysztof Gorczak (śpiew) i Sebastian Kozłowski (gitara). Najwięcej różnych emocji wzbudzi zapewne wersja najpiękniejszej polskiej pieśni bluesowej. „Modlitwa” z tej płyty wymaga uważnego słuchania. Pierwsze wrażenie może być niepokojące ze względu na śmiałą aranżację, ale niski głos Magdy Piskorczyk i intrygujące rozwinięcie utworu z dźwiękami skrzypiec Jana Gałacha powinny usunąć początkową nieufność. Nie będę wymieniał wszystkich przyjaciół grupy J.J. Band biorących udział w tym przedsięwzięciu, ani też omawiał kolejnych utworów – tej płyty trzeba posłuchać. Myślę, że każdy miłośnik rodzimej bluesowej twórczości znajdzie swój ulubiony utwór, chociaż jest ich tylko dziesięć.

Ważnym wydarzeniem poprzedzającym oficjalne wydanie płyty był koncert w radiowym studio im. Agnieszki Osieckiej 16 września 2010 roku – w Dniu Bluesa, którego część była transmitowana w Programie Trzecim Polskiego Radia. Tutaj lider J.J. Band, Jacek Jaguś, pokazał oprócz umiejętności instrumentalnych i wokalnych swoje walory w roli gospodarza wieczoru. Nie sposób było zostać obojętnym na to, co działo się na scenie. Harmonijka Bartka Łęczyckiego, intrygujące wokale, ujmujące dźwięki gitar… Mam nadzieję, że doczekamy się również wydania CD z tym koncertem. Tymczasem płyta studyjna jest jeszcze dostępna w sklepach. Tata Tadzio byłby zadowolony. ---Stanisław Śpiewak, blues.pl
