Once again the fans have spoken as this was funded in part via Kickstarter. Even though Dick Hyman gets the only musician shout out on the front cover, this swinging New York thrush has stacked the deck with a load of great players whose resumes speak for themselves making this a full bodied jazz vocal date with a taste for the past. The newest song is almost 60years old. The gang is all having a great time whether vamping on Sinatra swing or Hot Club antics. Each cut is a winner and jazz vocal fans are in for a first class treat here. Check it out as the legend grows. ---Chris Spector, Midwest Record

Molly Ryan’s new album “Let’s Fly Away” has a very distinct sound: it’s an album that jumps – it swings, it’s effervescent, it fleets and floats. And that is just perfect for the concept of the album, which are songs about traveling. Though I have seen this concept before (It’s something Bing Crosby and Rosie Clooney and their ilk did – sigh I miss those days) the song line up here is stellar, and imaginative: “The Gypsy In My Soul,” “Let’s Go To Rio,” and “Anywhere I Wander” are just some of the titles. Ryan knows her away around a song: she caresses these words tenderly without missing a beat – she is one of those few singers with such a great sense of rhythm that she swings even when it seems she isn’t. And she has great back-up here: Dick Hyman is on piano for half the tracks, and Dan Barrett is on trombone. The whole album is a joy to hear, and for someone like me who loves to travel, is a gift. ---superleonel, leonelescota.wordpress.com

A Superb Vocalist who Evokes the Swinging Sounds of the Big Band Era. Molly’s silvery voice and lush, elegant vocal style evoke the big band singers of the 1930s and breathe new life into familiar old standards. Originally from Roseville, CA, she made her singing debut at the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee with the Reynolds Brothers’ Rhythm Rascals when she was eleven. Since moving to New York City in August of 2003, Molly has appeared with such prominent jazz artists as Randy Reinhart, Howard Alden, Jon-Erik Kellso, Kevin Dorn, and Mark Shane. Last year she led an all-star band in a tribute to the late, great vocalist, Anita O’Day. She is proud to announce the release of her new solo album, “Songbird in the Moonlight.” Visit Molly on the web at www.mollyryan.com. ---Album Notes, cdbaby.com
