This album from the Pasadena Roof Orchestra is an intoxicating blend of the Orchestra's 1920s and 1930s repertoire which they haven't previously recorded, with the addition of a couple of popular titles that have been released on vinyl only. There are also three 'new' numbers to the Orchestra, which were given their first outing in last year's 40th Anniversary Concert at London's Cadogan Hall. For over forty years the Pasadena Roof Orchestra has delighted audiences all over the world with its mix of swing and hot dance music. Swing is much more than a musical genre, it personifies a lust for life, with its infectious beat. Its roots lie in the pre-war dance bands, and the roaring twenties which inspired the later big swing bands. Included on this CD are eleven tunes of the Orchestra's existing music collection that hadn't been previously recorded, some of which have been played by the band for over 30 years. Also included is a new recording of "Am Sonntag Will Meine Süße Mit Mir Segeln Gehn" and "No Strings", which were only ever recorded by the band on vinyl. "The Orchestra's repertoire has been shaken again - not stirred! The best 1920s and 30s tunes are the simple ingredients for that cocktail. So, sit back and take a sip of the Orchestra's new programme Licensed to Swing." ---Duncan Galloway (orchestra leader & vocalist), amazon.com

I first made the acquaintance of the Pasadena Roof orchestra through a spin-off of theirs - James Langton and his Solid Senders Orchestra. They gave two sensational "last night" concerts at the Snape summer festivals in 2001 and 2002. Langton's band specialised in late 1930s swing, especially the music of Benny Goodman and Artie Shaw. To hear this exhilarating music played live and so well was a wonderful experience. Since then I have collected several discs by the Pasadena Roof Orchestra. They draw on a greater musical repertoire than the Solid Senders and play many hits from the 1920s and less swinging stuff from the 1930s as well as swing standards like "Cherokee". "Here and Now" is the best record of theirs that I have yet to hear. The playing and singing are very good and the selection of numbers is varied, ranging from the very well known to the undeservedly obscure. The recording quality is really excellent. There is a real "You Are There" sensation when the sound bursts out of the speakers. The diction of the singers (Duncan Galloway and Louise Cookson) is also good - you can hear every word - and that is a pretty rare experience these days in any musical genre.

Recommended without reserve for enthusiasts for music of an era when "popular music" was actually popular. ---P. H. Cartwright, amazon.com

The velvet-throated master crooner Duncan Galloway and the Pasadena Roof Orchestra perform a set of classic tunes from the 1920s and 30s with guest vocalists Les Brunettes and Laura Fygi.

With its authentic 1920s and 30s music, the Pasadena Roof Orchestra has been selling-out concerts and playing at society dances for more than forty years. Using the original arrangements the eleven-piece band has earned itself a reputation for transporting the music forward into present times in a fashion both fascinating and true to the original spirit.

Today the music is as popular as it has ever been. Big stars such as Robbie Williams and Bryan Ferry have been delving back into classic jazz and the Great American Songbook and they, of course, have employed members of the band on their recordings and on tour in order to create that authentic sound. ---amazon.com

For over thirty years the Pasadena Roof Orchestra, based in the UK, has delighted audiences all over the world with its mix of swing and hot dance music. Swing is much more than a musical genre, it personifies a lust for life, with its infectious beat. Its roots lie in the pre war dance bands, and the roaring twenties which inspired the later big swing bands. In contrast to many other musical genres swing has never really gone out of fashion over the decades, particularly in recent years. The Pasadena Roof Orchestra has played an important role in this resurgence of popularity. 40 recorded vinyl LPs, singles, CDs, and DVDs containing over 300 titles have been released since 1974. The timeless sound of the orchestra has led to ever more recordings. In Japan the orchestra‘s first five vinyl albums have recently been rereleased in a CD format. --- pasadena-records.com
