Far to the west and south, in what was then called New Spain and would later be called Mexico, natives and transplanted Spaniards were composing liturgical music of a richness and complexity that was worthy of the greatest cathedrals of Europe -- and teaching their native converts to do the same. This disc showcases the works of two of 18th century Mexico's finest composers: the Mexican-born Manuel de Zumaya and the transplanted European Ignacio de Jerusalem. The latter is represented by a polychoral Mass in D Minor, a responsory, and a gorgeous Dixit Dominus setting written in six sections; from the former listeners have a setting of Jeremiah's lamentations, a breathtakingly complex solfeggio composition titled Sol-fa de Pedro, and the polychoral Celebren, Publiquen. Accompanied by an ad hoc period instrument ensemble dubbed the Chanticleer Sinfonia for this album, Chanticleer does its usual job of effortlessly and thrillingly bringing this music to vivid life, and the recorded sound could hardly be brighter and richer. This is one of Chanticleer's finest and most satisfying albums. ---Rick Anderson, Rovi</p> <p> </p> <p>This fine disc brings together two composers from the so called "high period" in South American baroque music. Influenced wholly by the Spanish culture or "New Spain", the music of Ignacio de Jerusalem (c.1710-1769) and Manuel de Sumaya [Zumaya] (c. 1678-1755) is rich and highly varied with several outstanding touchs that create an atmosphere e of mystery and great spiritual beauty.</p> <p>Of special interest is the Mass in D Major by Jerusalem which is replete with original touches that show Jerusalem's complete understanding of the vocal idiom. The sheer splendor of the "Gloria" has to be heard to be believed and I would rate this work up amongst the top sacred works composed in the 18th century. Zumaya is slightly less original but no less technically accomplished as the sober lamentations based on texts by the prophet Jeremiah amply demonstrate.</p> <p>Recorded in 1994, this disc is excellently placed to re-take its rightful position as one of the most exciting issues of the mid 1990's. Chanticleer and Joseph Jennings are masters of this sort of repertoire and the detailed and copious notes are a bonus which should make this CD a most desirable purchase. ---Gerald Fenech, classical.net</p> <p>download (mp3 @320 kbs):</p> <p><a href="http://ul.to/spvadzk3" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">uploaded </a> <a href="https://yadi.sk/d/vyPJz1zJirZyo" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">yandex </a> <a href="http://www.4shared.com/zip/Q2Qsfq1Qce/IdJ-MiDDD07.html" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">4shared </a> <a href="https://mega.nz/#!r18BATaD!vlSDmLxbPT4hIOhCxeAK69isWDWAg7b8wIYjz6UedYY" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">mega </a> <a href="http://www.mediafire.com/download/fnydxgvy726cnyo/IdJ-MiDDD07.zip" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">mediafire</a> <a href="http://zalivalka.ru/275342" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">zalivalka </a> <a href="https://cloud.mail.ru/public/GcVA/qocuYWBJK" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">cloudmailru </a> <a href="https://www.oboom.com/QLKSX7BB/IdJ-MiDDD07.zip" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">oboom </a> <a href="http://uplea.com/dl/D835AA754CD7980" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">uplea </a></p> <p> </p> <p><a href="http://www.theblues-thatjazz.com/javascript:history.back();">back</a></p> <p><strong>Ignacio de Jerusalem - Mass In D, Dixit Dominus (2007)</strong></p> <p><img src="http://www.theblues-thatjazz.com/ObrMuz/Classical/Ignacio/massind.jpg" border="0" alt="Image could not be displayed. For this one, they return to that repertoire with a stunning performance of a musical Matins service by de Jerusalem. De Jerusalem was born and raised in Italy and was recruited to come to Mexico to strengthen the music program at one of Mexico City's most renowned theaters. Around 1750 he was appointed chapel master of the cathedral in that city, and there composed some of the most spectacular music of the period. The Matins service re-created here includes a number of lessons, antiphons, and responsories as well as a glorious nine-section Te Deum setting; scattered throughout the program are several miscellaneous works of similar character by de Zumaya and one by Giacomo Rust, an Italian composer whom de Jerusalem probably knew during his student years. As always, Chanticleer performs with an impressive blend of precision and jubilation, and the choir's tone is amazingly rich and beautiful; the production quality is top-notch as well. Very highly recommended. ---Rick Anderson, Rovi</p> <p> </p> <p>The Maitines para Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, by Ignacio de Jerusalém, receives on this recording its first performance since two hundred years ago. Music lovers must be very thankful to Chanticleer for their interest in reviving works from the Mexican Baroque. Matins (a religious service that was performed in the Roman Catholic Church in the early hours of the morning)were a vehicle for composers in the New Spain to showcase their skill using texts of different moods. These Matins in particular, for the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, bear ressemblance to the early Catholic works by Handel, where a capella chant was alternated with elaborate solo and choral movements with orchestra. Jerusalem, an Italian composer established in Mexico by 1742, borrowed music from other composers for his services: Beatam me dicent omnes is by Giacomo Rust and there are two wonderful works by Manuel de Sumaya. These two pieces, "Albricias mortales" and "Angélicas milicias" are in my opinion, the most interesting works of the CD. With their poetic Spanish texts and baroque polyphony, they illustrate the situation of Latin America during that period: great European influence with a new conscience of being part of another new reality, something similar to the literary work of the great Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz. The choral and orchestral forces of Chanticleer perform with such beauty and expression that it is difficult that even Jerusalem could have imagined that this work could sound so great. I hope Chanticleer continue to revive great works from Latin America. ---M.Ramos, amazon.com</p> <p>download (mp3 @320 kbs):</p> <p><a href="http://ul.to/chkmv8ou" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">uploaded </a> <a href="https://yadi.sk/d/M_s_Tn2kiswBj" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">yandex </a> <a href="http://www.4shared.com/zip/1OpVlbl8ba/IdJ-MftVoG98.html" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">4shared </a> <a href="https://mega.nz/#!3oNWlDSL!5VKrEwWsEy6waGZmwXPIKIZUh916LnCUZQ6QG28tGeg" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">mega </a> <a href="http://www.mediafire.com/download/z21enyb2j9krh8d/IdJ-MftVoG98.zip" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">mediafire</a> <a href="http://zalivalka.ru/275605" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">zalivalka </a> <a href="https://cloud.mail.ru/public/Mr3C/eWoAs7pB6" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">cloudmailru </a> <a href="https://www.oboom.com/MV89ABAQ/IdJ-MftVoG98.zip" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">oboom </a> <a href="http://uplea.com/dl/6F2FDCCEAD0B7F9" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">uplea </a></p> <p> </p> <p><a href="http://www.theblues-thatjazz.com/javascript:history.back();">back</a></p> <p><strong>Ignacio de Jerusalem - Matins for the Virgin of Guadalupe (1998)</strong></p> <p><img src="http://www.theblues-thatjazz.com/ObrMuz/Classical/Ignacio/guadelupe.jpg" border="0" alt="Image could not be displayed. I hope Chanticleer continue to revive great works from Latin America. ---M.Ramos, amazon.com</p> <p>download (mp3 @320 kbs):</p> <p><a href="http://ul.to/chkmv8ou" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">uploaded </a> <a href="https://yadi.sk/d/M_s_Tn2kiswBj" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">yandex </a> <a href="http://www.4shared.com/zip/1OpVlbl8ba/IdJ-MftVoG98.html" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">4shared </a> <a href="https://mega.nz/#!3oNWlDSL!5VKrEwWsEy6waGZmwXPIKIZUh916LnCUZQ6QG28tGeg" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">mega </a> <a href="http://www.mediafire.com/download/z21enyb2j9krh8d/IdJ-MftVoG98.zip" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">mediafire</a> <a href="http://zalivalka.ru/275605" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">zalivalka </a> <a href="https://cloud.mail.ru/public/Mr3C/eWoAs7pB6" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">cloudmailru </a> <a href="https://www.oboom.com/MV89ABAQ/IdJ-MftVoG98.zip" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">oboom </a> <a href="http://uplea.com/dl/6F2FDCCEAD0B7F9" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">uplea </a></p> <p> </p> <p><a href="http://www.theblues-thatjazz.com/javascript:history.back();">back</a></p>
