Whatever's Right was Lonnie Mack's second album of 1969, and like its predecessor (Glad I'm In The Band) it exhibited his blend of rock & roll, blues, soul and country, highlighted by fantastic vocals, excellent band arrangements, and of course superb guitar playing. The songs included covers of The Falcons' "I Found A Love", Jimmy Reed's "Baby What You Want Me To Do", Bobby Bland's "Share Your Love With Me" and Willie Dixon's "My Babe", along with a couple of very strong originals which bookended the album.

It was another hit with the critics, but sales were disappointing. Mack then moved away from recording and into a producing / session work / A&R role for Elektra Records. He recruited many southern blues and country artists to the label, and his most well-know studio session saw him playing bass (and according to rumours, some lead guitar as well) on The Doors' Morrison Hotel album. --- stuckinthepast08.blogspot.com

Lonnie Mack is simply an awesome guitarist and a great live performer. This release manages to catch his talents better than any other.

Recorded at Fitzgerald’s in Berwyn, Illinois in December of 1989, this disc has everything that a great live album should have, a great talent on stage, an exciting performance from that talent, a responsive crowd, and excellent sound quality. ‘Riding The Blinds’ serves as a good beginning, and a sign of what’s to come. By the second track, ‘Natural Disaster,’ Lonnie already has them singing along on the choruses. The intensity of his performance never ceases throughout the whole disc. He’s backed up by Dumpy Rice on piano, Michael Freeman on bass, and Maxwell Schauf on drums, together, a perfect compliment to Lonnie's style. Lonnie’s best known song, ‘Satisfy Susie,’ is here as well in a blistering version that serves as the climax of the disc. He even slows things down with a seven and a half minute performance of Wilson Pickett’s ‘ I Found A Love’ that showcases both his emotional vocals, and some sweet blues licks. He wraps things up with yet another blistering performance on an eight minute ‘Cincinnati Jail.’ This is what live blues is all about! If this album doesn’t get you swinging there’s no need to worry because you’ve likely already passed on and it no longer matters.

Anyone who enjoys a powerful blues guitar, or music that straddles that line between blues and rock, should have a copy of this one. It’s just one of those essential discs that belongs in everyone’s collection. --- djd3.tripod.com

The folks at Columbia had no idea how to market Mack, so this fairly undistinguished album died a quick and practically unnoticed death. --Bill Dahl, allmusic.com

At first glance, this might seem like nothing more than a retread of the classic The Wham of That Memphis Man, as the disc includes all 14 songs from that album. This is a quality upgrade/supplement to that record, though, adding 11 more tracks of 1963-1967 vintage from both rare singles and previously unreleased outtakes. This is hardly filler that only collectors will care about; it's good stuff, sometimes ace stuff, that's almost all on the same level of The Wham. "Oh, I Apologize," a cover of an obscure Barrett Strong track, is white soul singing on par with Mack's best vocal efforts, while "Cry, Cry, Cry" is a great instrumental version of a Bobby "Blue" Bland number; both of these cuts, unbelievably, were not released prior to this CD. The singles "Say Something Nice to Me" and "Save Your Money" (from 1964 and 1967) are more filet of white soul, and "Tension Pts. 1 & 2" (a 1966 single) another cool roadhouse instrumental. Some of the rare add-ons are less essential than others (like the instrumental reading of the Beatles' "From Me to You"), but taken together it's certainly the best Mack collection, enhanced by Bill Millar's informative liner notes. By the way, in one of those inexplicable occurrences bound to cause collectors to run around in circles, the song titled "Farther on Down the Road" on The Wham of That Memphis Man recording is here titled "Farther on up the Road" and listed as previously unreleased, although in fact it seems to be the same track as the one given a different title on the LP. (To cause further confusion, Mack definitely sings the lyric "Farther on up the road, " not "Farther on down the road, " as it was originally titled.) ---Richie Unterberger, allmusic.com

Fourteen years before the release of "In Session" (but, it was two years after the "In Session" recording took place), SRV sat in with another one of his heroes, Lonnie Mack. Stevie co-produced Mack's come back album as well as providing guitar work for half the tracks. If you're thinking this is an SRV album under a different name don't get too excited. Stevie had great respect for his heroes and he would never step on their toes. This is definitely Mack's album and when SRV's not playing, Mack's younger brother, Bill McIntosh, steps up to the plate (a fine guitarist in his own right).

Mack is most noted for his ability to play melody and rhythm simultaneously. His powerful country-blues sound has a good feel to it, and he is flawless at giving us good-old music. "Double Whammy" is a remake of "Wham!" with Stevie on the second guitar (this was SRV's first record that he owned as a kid and he played it so much his father broke it - it's understandable why he played so much). Mack duets vocally with SRV on "If You Have to Know". All of the songs on this album are keepers.

Overall, this is a great album. You can hear from these tracks how Mack has been such a commodity to guitar music and the blues. The Allman Brothers, Bugs Henderson, The Vaughan brothers, Eric Clapton and countless others have been influenced by this man. If you like the blues, especially Southern blues, then you owe it to yourself to check out Lonnie Mack. ---Russell Diederich, amazon.com
