Obviously at this point in time almost everyone who is a Corby Yates fan was introduced to his music by seeing him live...and my Lord what a treat it is to see this power trio live. I was pleasantly surprised by how much emotion made it onto the studio CD. I don't know if this was a live studio recording or what, but it is raw the way Texas Flood is raw...good raw. Think of this as getting in on the ground floor of something special.

I don't see Corby becoming as big of a star as Jonny Lang. He doesn't sing as well and he probably doesn't appeal to the Hanson crowd (he's no pretty boy)...this is not a bad thing. Corby is real, and that makes his brand of blues more believable. I think many of the five star ratings here are for Corby Yates the performer, not Corby Yates the album. It is a tribute to his loyal northern California following. I give only four stars because I think Corby will get better. If you like SRV and you live outside California (where Corby has limited his touring for the most part), I recommend you get this CD. If you can get to one of Corby's shows then I recommend that you buy this CD at a show. ---amazon.com

Like the universe continually expanding in its own infinite search for truth and perfection, Corby’s ever-evolving music dwells in a similar mind-expanding and soul-stirring space – a musical world where influences of past musical giants merge deeply and seamlessly with his own unique voice and presence. Corby’s music was specifically written to alter your state of consciousness, stimulate your neurons and hopefully bring you joy as you listen.

His distinctly old school roots include Jimi Hendrix, John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Cream, Led Zeppelin, Chris Cain, Robin Trower, Howling Wolf, Buddy Guy, Albert King, Eric Dolphy, The Yardbirds, Blue Cheer, ZZ-Top, The Groundhogs and more.

At 17, Corby won the prestigious National Jimi Hendrix electric guitar competition in Seattle WA, in the 18 and under division. He began playing guitar at the tender age of six and never looked back. He played many, many hundreds of shows, mainly at clubs, theaters and festivals throughout California, from age 14 on.

While his electric power trio work endlessly explored these deep and varied heavy rock and blues roots, in 2007, Corby turned down the dB’s and also developed a solo acoustic show. Just him, his National Steel guitar and a slide, singing and playing Hill Country blues and more. He rarely performed this way live though, opting to express himself with his band while playing his beloved Ernie Ball Music Man through a late 60’s ragged old Fender Dual Showman Reverb amp.

Over the years, Corby and company enjoyed the opportunity of performing with many great artists and bands including John Lee Hooker, Robin Trower, Johnny Winter, Indigenous, Cheap Trick, The Mermen, Chris Cain, Robben Ford, Tinsley Ellis, Joe Louis Walker, Richard Johnston, Tommy Castro, Jimmie Vaughan, Freak Kitchen, Coco Montoya, The Tubes and others.

In order of appearance, the Corby Yates Band members, both temporary and full-time, were Jim Yates (bass), “Chip” (drum machine), Robert Acree (drums), Randy Hayes (drums), Jeff Campitelli (drums), Andy Doerschuk (drums), Ian Blesse (drums), and Toby Cordova (bass).
