If Leonard "Harmonica Slim" Riggins had lived in Chicago, he would probably have become one of the big names of the blues. But he spent his life in California - Fresno, Oakland - where his raw/down-to-earth blues couldn't reach a wide audience. That's why such a great bluesman has been so underrated and rarely recorded.

Luckyly, Trix label has captured the music of the man who was still at his best in 1995 despite his 74 years old. This record sends you back in the 50's down in Mississippi where he was born : his voice which goes through his harp mike, catches you from the beginning to the end, his hamonica playing is down home, rough and brillant, and the band is perfect - especialy Ron Thompson who has probably never played so well. ---S. This is a great CD for students of the harp to learn some good simple riffs and great tonality. The first song, Hole In Her Belly, is just such a number as is the second tune Woman 'Round My Door. Kids will especially laugh at some of the lyrics but at least they are getting a good dose of classic 12 bar blues. Harmonica Slim does a lot with a few riffs. I think he plays an A-harp on every song and he concentrates on the low end but it is perfect for us relative beginners to learn how it is done. Other standouts are Bright Lights, Big City.Enjoy it.---Amazon.com

Cold Tacos and Warm Beer is the first recorded collaboration from blues veterans Harmonica Slim and guitarist Hosea Levy. This duo has consistently played for a number of years together, mainly in their hometown of Fresno, California, at open air rent parties featuring friends and family. The spark from these impromptu sessions combined with their natural passion to play is what makes this Fedora release what Slim describes as "blues real and true to life."
