Volumen 4 includes the song "Abelardo El Pollo", perhaps my favorite Pappo's Blues song. It's also one of his simplest, but it perfectly captures the essence of Pappo's Blues. This sounds like beautiful stoner rock, a simple blues based but heavy and downtuned riff smears the background with sepia toned moods, while Pappo solos and solos almost non stop. Napolitano's vocal delivery is beyond relaxed, lethargic and sleepy. He almost sounds uninterested. Like the vague and apparently absurd lyrics that would be Napolitano's trademark, this one is hard to describe. Abelardo is a chicken, and apparently he is having a hard time dealing with life. Napolitano is telling him not to suffer, to relax and comforts him by mentioning that we all go through the same difficulties. --- deafsparrow.com

Norberto Napolitano was born in the province of Santa Fé in 1950, then walked out to moved to Buenos Aires (Capital Federal), since his youth he felt great interest in music, his early influences were The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, Freddie King, BB King, Jimi Hendrix, Muddy Waters, Eric Clapton and Manal.

During the late 60s and throughout the 70's, he was fundamental part of the argentine rock scene, he started playing as occasional guitarist for Manal, but soon joined Los Abuelos de la Nada and later Los Gatos. In 1971, forms "Pappo's Blues" and that same year releases his first album, also is part of the 1973 documentary "Hasta que se ponga el sol". During the first era of Pappo's Blues in the '70s there were constant line up changes, Napolitano was the only permanent member of the band. Between 1975 and 1980 Pappo lived alternatively in England and Argentina, in the United Kingdom he was in contact with new genres such as punk and the new wave of heavy metal.

During one of his returns to Buenos Aires, in 1977, formed "Aeroblus", since 1980 he stays definitely in Argentina and forms Riff, which is considered one of the most representative bands of argentine rock from the 1980s. In the 1990s, he returned with Pappo's Blues and also held brief reunions of Riff. Early in the decade of the 2000s, Pappo published a solo album with a classic sound of blues and hard rock. Norberto Napolitano died in February 2005 in a motorcycle accident. The municipality of the City of Buenos Aires dedicated a monument in his honor.

Throughout the career of Pappo's Blues there would be frequent lineup changes and despite the recognition in Argentine's rock circles, the band would receive no airplay. Later in the 1970's Napolitano would spend some time in Brazil and in Europe. While in England he would play with the likes of Peter Green (FLeetwood Mac) and Lemmy (Motorhead). Once he returned to Argentina, Napolitano would form the heavy metal band Riff. With them Pappo would finally taste success. ---deafsparrow.com

In contrast Volumen 3 sounds more metallic. The production is fuzzier and more electric. Some of the tunes sound more upbeat, but the blues backbone is everything. "Pajaro Metalico" is hard with Napolitano sounding way more confident and busy, packing more notes where before he sounded laid back. The drumming is colorful with fills and cymbal splashing everywhere. Overall, it sounds like Pappo's Blues came totally together here, with each player letting go freely and following a vibe instead of a partiture or a structure. A song like "Sucio y Desprolijo" is hard rock plain and simple, the riff is metal and the solo is aggressive and relentless. ---deafsparrow.com

Pappo's Blues was the creation of the brilliant guitarist Norberto Napolitano and which better genre could a guitarist choose to highlight its chops than the blues. Volumen 2 was released in 1972, by then Napolitano was already a veteran of the Argentinean rock scene. He had first done time with Los Abuelos de la Nada in the late 60's, a band that about fifteen years later would find massive success in South America. He would then move onto Los Gatos with whom he'd record Beat No.1 in 1970. But it wasn't until he formed Pappo's Blues that he found not only his own voice but also recognition in his motherland. Volumen 2 is a straight up blues record, filled with warm notes and vicious guitar playing. No mimics here, just thick bass notes, fluent yet loose blues guitar and relaxed drumming. A couple of ballads here, but the rock and roll influence is obvious. The organic production job is pure 70's rawness. ---deafsparrow.com

‘’Pappo’s Blues’’ was a Rock/Blues band from Argentina. Led by Pappo (Norberto “Pappo” Napolitano), it suffered a constant change of musicians throughout its life.

In 1971 Pappo’s Blues recorded its first album, called simply “Pappo’s Blues”. The second one, “Pappo’s Blues Volumen 2” was recorded in 1972. By the time in which they recorded the third album (Pappo’s Blues Volumen 3), there had been two changes in the group: David Lebón (bass) left, his place taken by C.A. Machi Ruffino, and Black Amaya was replaced by Pomo. The recording of Pappo’s Blues Volumen 4 was marked by the return of David Lebón and Black Amaya and the incorporation of Alejandro Medina. On the same year the discographic company edited “Triángulo” and in 1975 “Pappo’s Blues Volumen 6” with songs that had already been recorded, in which Pappo played with Eduardo Barbagnatti and Eduardo Beaudoux. In 1978 Pappo, this time with Alejandro Medina playing bass and Darío Fernandez with the drums, recorded Pappo’s Blues Volumen 7. On November 14th 1980 the band officially dissolved, but “Pappo’s band” kept playing occasionally. The band recorded Hombre Suburbano in 1994; Caso Cerrado in 1995 and Auto Rojo in 1998. ---last.fm
